Hancock unemployment continues to remain low

The latest data continues to reflect that Hancock County’s unemployment rate remains very low.
It came in at 2.8% for November 2025, according to the most recent Labor Market Review for the region from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. While October 2025 data was not collected due to a lapse in federal appropriations, the figure is down from 3.1% in September 2025 as well as 3.6% in November 2024.
Indiana’s unemployment rate is trending similarly, coming in at 3.3% for November 2025, down from 3.5% in September 2025 and 4.3% in November 2024.
The U.S. unemployment rate for November 2025 stayed the same as September 2025–4.3%--up slightly from November 2024’s 4%.
Hancock County’s November 2025 unemployment rate ranks 82nd highest out of Indiana’s 92 counties. In the central Indiana region, Madison County’s was highest at 3.3% while Hendricks County’s was lowest at 2.7%.
Registered nurses and heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers continue to lead the list of top 20 job listings by number of postings in the central Indiana region.
