Hancock unemployment ticks down to 3.1%

Hancock County’s unemployment rate for September 2025 was 3.1%, down from 3.2% in August and 3.4% in September 2024, according to the latest information from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Unemployment is trending similarly throughout all of Indiana and the U.S., with the state’s rate dropping to 3.5% in September 2025 from 3.8% in August and 4% in September 2024; and the nation’s at 4.3% for September 2025, down from 4.5% in August but up from 3.9% in September 2024.
Hancock County’s September 2025 unemployment rate ranks 73rd highest out of Indiana’s 92 counties. In the central Indiana region, Marion County’s was highest at 3.6% while Hamilton County’s was lowest at 2.9%.
Nurses and heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers lead the list of top 20 job listings by number of postings in the central Indiana region.
