Hancock unemployment remains low

Hancock County’s unemployment rate for August 2025 was 3.2%, down from 3.5% in July and 3.6% in August 2024, according to the latest information from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Unemployment is trending similarly throughout all of Indiana and the U.S., with the state’s rate dropping to 3.8% in August 2025 from 4.2% in July and 4.4% in August 2024; and the nation’s at 4.5% for August 2025, down from 4.6% in July and 4.4% in August 2024.
Hancock County’s August 2025 unemployment rate ranks 83rd highest out of Indiana’s 92 counties. In the central Indiana region, Marion County’s was highest at 3.9% while Boone County’s was lowest at 3%.
Nurses and heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers lead the list of top 20 job listings by number of postings in the central Indiana region.
