Hancock remains among fastest growing counties in Indiana

Hancock County was the second fastest growing county in Indiana in 2024, according to analysis from the Indiana Business Research Center at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
The County posted a 3.1% gain–2,634 residents–for an estimated total population of 88,810 as of July 1, 2024.
In 2024, nearly 1,000 residential building permits were filed across Hancock County municipalities, including:
- McCordsville
- 518 single-family–a record year
- 75 multifamily
- Greenfield
- 201 single-family
- Fortville
- 84 single-family
- Cumberland
- 64 triplexes
- 19 single-family
- New Palestine
- 16 single-family
The 2024 announcement follows Hancock County’s ranking as the fastest growing county in Indiana in 2023. Boone County claimed the top spot in 2024 with a 3.4% growth rate. Following Hancock County were fellow Indy-area suburban counties Hamilton (1.9%) and Hendricks (1.9%), with Clark County (1.4%) in the Louisville metro area coming in fifth.
These population increases contribute to Indiana’s largest since 2008, adding 44,144 residents in 2024 to reach a total population of 6.92 million.
