The Vernon Township Fire Territory, which includes the Town of McCordsville, the Town of Fortville and the unincorporated area of Vernon Township, is pleased to announce that they have received the results of the agency’s latest Public Protection Classification (PPC) evaluation from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO).
The Township and Fire Territory are proud to announce that the entire service area for Vernon Township Fire Department (VTFD) has received an upgraded score to an ISO Class 3/3X rating.
This new rating may result in a significant decrease of annual insurance premiums within the Vernon Township Fire Department service area. Residential and commercial property owners are encouraged to contact their insurance providers to inquire if their premiums will be impacted by the improved classification rating. The new ISO Class 3/3X rating will go into effect on April 1, 2025.
The previous Vernon Township ISO evaluation was in 2020-21, early in the formation of the fire territory. Over the past five years VTFD has added career staffing, replaced twenty- and thirty-year-old fire engines; improved personal protective equipment; created a fire prevention division and training division; and built professionally staffed fire stations in strategic locations north (McCordsville) and south (Fortville) of the railroad tracks based on service needs.
In addition to these accomplishments, the department also purchased a ladder truck that will further improve its response capabilities when it is received in 2026.
