The Greenfield City Council is set to consider a resolution that would start a Build-Operate-Transfer process for the construction of a new parking garage in conjunction with mixed-use development by private developer Tyler Ridge Group.

The new garage would be constructed in what the city refers to as the Ranch parking lot, at the corner of Pennsylvania and South Streets, just to the west of Greenfield Fire Station 21.

In November, the city’s Redevelopment Commission heard a presentation from TRG on the proposed $49.5 million project which would bring apartments, retail space and a new parking garage to downtown. The proposal included $14.9 million in public funding, including $2 million from Hancock County and $11.7 million from Greenfield. All of the county’s contributions and $8.5 million of Greenfield’s contributions would go toward the parking garage under the proposal from TRG. The final $2.5 million would come from the REDI grant, which would go entirely toward building the residential and commercial spaces. The county council heard TRG’s request in November, but didn’t make a decision on whether or not to fund the project, requesting that the developer return to give the council more information at a later date.
