Unemployment rate stays steady in Hancock County

Hancock County’s unemployment rate remained 3.7% in September, unchanged from August, according to a Labor Market Review the Indiana Department of Workforce Development released today.
The county’s latest unemployment rate is up from September 2023’s 2.6%.
Indiana’s unemployment rate was 4.3% in September, down from 4.5% in August but up from 3% in September 2023.
The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.9% in September, down from 4.4% in August but up from 3.6% in September 2023.
Hancock County’s September 2024 unemployment rate ranks 63rd out of Indiana’s 92 counties. In the nine-county Central Indiana region, Madison County had the highest unemployment rate, at 4.3% (31st in the state); while Boone County had the lowest, at 3.2% (89th in the state).

The report also includes two WARN notices for Hancock County affecting 75 employees at Copeland Corp and 50 at Hancock Regional Hospital, respectively. For the Hancock Regional Hospital notice, it’s important to note that those employees are being transitioned to a third-party vendor. Forty-nine of those workers will continue their roles, just under a different employer, while one is retiring.
