Description
This two-day workshop covers the foundational concepts of electricity including terms, circuits, and direct and alternating currents. The course also includes numerous exercises and examples. Participants who complete this course can expect to gain knowledge and learn skills useful in an industrial environment.
Objectives:
- Define electricity and electrical concepts like voltage, current, resistance, and power
- Introduce polarity in conjunction with AC and DC circuits
- Explore electrical properties including magnetism, capacitance, and induction
- Explain scientific notation, engineering notation, and engineering units such as milliamps, megawatts, and picofarads
- Review basic electrical safety including hazards, PPE, and good practices
- Learn how to analyze circuits using Ohms Law and apply these principles to series, parallel, and combination circuits. (Real-world examples will be used to demonstrate these concepts with hands-on practical exercises.)
- Discuss wire size and ampacity, wire color, and usage
- Use NEC charts for wire, fuse, and breaker size
- Present commonly used electrical components such as relays, solenoids, contactors, switches, pushbuttons, indicators, and semiconductors
Intended Audience: Appropriate for all levels. It is recommended that participants possess good math skills.
Workshop Length: 16 hours / 2 days
